Santa Giulia

Santa Giulia

Santa Giulia is a mythical figure in Corsican folklore. According to legend, Giulia was a young slave who was forced to leave Corsica to go to Carthage where she was to be sold. However, at the ships edge, she refused to go and was beaten, crucified and mutilated. Her torturers threw her breasts onto a rock and miraculously two rivers began to flow. Today there is also a small church at this beach which was dedicated Giulia, who is now a martyr.

For tourists this legend is almost as enchanting as the beach that takes its name from the young slave. Santa Giulia beach is one of the most famous in Corsica. Each year endless numbers of tourists flock to this corner of paradise to soak up the beauty of the surrounding landscape and the splendor of the beach itself.

Santa Giulia beach is half-way between Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio and is extremely similar to a tropical lagoon. Shaped like a gulf inlet, its waters vary throughout the year from azure to turquoise and lead out into a picturesque environment filled with many beautiful local species of fish and reef.
