Saint Florent

Saint Florent

Saint Florent is a small town in Northern Corsica perched on a gulf and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. A typical seaside town, Saint Florent is famous for its local beauty, as well as its award winning restaurants, some of which pride themselves on producing local fare, while others experiment with modern cuisine and fusion.

All around Saint Florent are highlands and forests making it a fairly isolated location. Difficult to reach by land, Saint Florent is best accessed via its port, where hundreds of tourists arrive by boat all year round.

Saint Florent is a town devoted primarily to tourism, which is why its streets are filled with bars and cafes where visitors can relax and enjoy great food, and gorgeous little shops selling homemade handicrafts and souvenirs.

As well as being a beautiful seaside destination, Saint Florent is, like much of Corsica, also home to a great deal of history and culture. The symbol of this small town is its citadel, which can be accessed along the Rue du Center. Dating back to 1439, it was almost completely destroyed when it was bombed in the eighteenth century. Now restored, this historic landmark today offers incredible views of the sea and mountains.

But Saint Florent’s historical beauty doesn’t just end with the citadel as the town has plenty for visitors to see and do. Charming monuments to the town’s religious heritage, the Church of  Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of San Michele are two must-sees for visitors, while Saleccia Beach and Agricates Desert are perfect for those who want to experience a bit of the area’s natural splendor.
