During the Middle Ages Propriano was ruled by Pisa but suffered many invasions from the neighbouring Turkish. It wasn’t until the 19th century, under the control of the city of Genoa, that Propriano began to prosper, becoming an important port and a symbol of Corsica’s rich peasant traditions and customs.
