The characteristic town of Macinaggio is located in the northern part of Corsica and its magnificent beaches and rich culture make it one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island. An ancient town, Macinaggio has a rare natural beauty that never fails to inspire visitors with its splendor and charm. Although small, the town is blessed with centuries of incredible history, maintained today through traditional festivals and striking architecture.

The natural environment in this part of Corsica is mainly a marine one characterized by breathtaking coastline as far as the eye can see. The beaches here are amongst the best in the Mediterranean with white sand and crystal blue water.

Whilst most popular for its seaside, the town of Macinaggio itself is also custodian of a rich heritage and artistic beauty. A vibrant place, Macinaggio is covered with ancient towers including the magnificent Mortella and Sainte Marie Towers. Built in the 16th century by the then Genovese rulers, these grand towers served as a principal  defensive tool against invasions from pirates and the Saracens.

Today Macinaggio is a central port for the island. With origins which date back to 160 BC and include the Roman Empire, the town has an ancient and grandiose spirit which only comes with centuries of importance and splendor. The location of many battles and wars, Macinaggio boasts not only an incredible natural beauty but also an impressive history which has transformed it into a symbol of Corsica’s unique and glorious past.
